Transportation

The LaPorte Community School Corporation provides free bus transportation for many Saint Joseph
students. For information regarding bus routes, please call the transportation department or bus garage
directly at 362-1023 to plan your route. Parents and students should know their bus numbers before the
first day of school.

If a child is going to ride a bus other than his/her regular bus, he/she must give a note to the driver. This
note must be written, signed, and dated by the parent and initialed by both the teacher and the principal.

Motor scooters, mopeds, or other motorized means of transportation are not permitted.

Car
Children will wait in a designated area until the parent's car comes up in line. Parents who choose to
wait for their children and not wait in line must park in the designated area and come up to the school to
get their child(ren). Parents must be very careful and watchful of all children when dropping off and
picking up children.

Parents should not drive onto the playground when students are arriving at school. In the case of
severe weather, heavy rainstorm or extreme cold, parents may drive up to the front door by following
the dismissal pattern. Parents may not drive onto the playground from either the "C" Street or "2nd"
Street entrances.

There is to be no parking on the playground during the school day.

Dismissal Procedure
Please remain in your car and pull up as far as possible to enable more cars to get out of the street. If
you are in line, do not get out of your car as this holds everyone up. If you prefer to park and wait,
please park in the designated area. Children are not permitted to walk to cars unescorted.

Students waiting for their ride should wait in the designated area and be ready for pick up. There is no
running and/or playing during dismissal. If you have little children, please keep them with you at all times.
Please do not let them run on the playground or around the school.

Please do not pick up children on 2nd Street or on "C" Street. This is for the safety and security of your
children.

Students may not rollerblade or skateboard on school property at anytime. School property is defined as
the area enclosed by the sidewalks around the block.
